When it comes to arriving at Magic Kingdom, Disney offers two iconic transportation options, each with its own charm, style, and perks. Choosing between the ferry and the monorail can actually become part of the Disney experience itself!

The ferry offers a relaxing, scenic cruise across the sparkling Seven Seas Lagoon, giving you a unique perspective of the park before you even step inside. You’ll glide past the shoreline, catch glimpses of the castle, and enjoy the gentle breeze as you approach the park entrance. It’s slower than the monorail, but that’s part of the magic—it’s the perfect way to unwind, take photos, and start your Disney day in a calm, leisurely way.

The monorail, on the other hand, is all about speed, efficiency, and that signature Disney flair. Zipping you from select resorts or the Ticket and Transportation Center straight to the Magic Kingdom entrance in just minutes, the monorail offers elevated views of the resorts, water, and surrounding areas that are perfect for quick snapshots. Riding the monorail is also a fun, interactive experience—it’s almost like stepping into a piece of Disney history, as this iconic mode of transportation has been whisking guests around Walt Disney World for decades.

Whether you’re traveling alone or with little ones in tow, you’re sure to enjoy both of these transportation options! Thankfully, when you have your favorite tiny humans along for the ride, you don’t have to fold down your stroller to board either option. That said, keep in mind that the monorail may get a little snug with strollers, and it can be harder to find room in a tram car during busy times. The ferry, on the other hand, has lots of space for strollers, though it is mostly standing room on the main floor, with just a few small benches reserved for guests who are elderly, disabled, or expectant mothers.

Leaving the park right after fireworks or a night parade can create a significant rush to the exit, and almost everyone has to choose between the monorail or ferry to return to the Ticket and Transportation Center. While some may argue that the monorail is technically faster—and it is speedier—the ferry is often my preferred method when traveling with my family. The ferry may seem slower, but the line tends to move quickly since a large group of guests can ride each boat, and multiple ferries are running during these peak times.

Regardless of which option you choose, I highly suggest packing your patience for the return trip. You’ve just had a magical but long day at the park, your feet are sore, the kids are sleepy, and keep in mind that everyone else is feeling the same way. It will likely take a significant amount of time to make it back to your car, so plan this travel time into your day to ensure you’re prepared and not caught off guard at the end of an incredible Disney adventure.
